So, back to the Christmas card, a quick post for today, I will show you how to draw the Christmas card in 15 minutes in Photoshop.
Start a new photoshop file
1. File>New>Fill in the following:
Width: 432 pixels Height: 306 pixels Resolutions: 72 pixels/inch Background content: Transparent
2. Click on the Paint Bucket Tool, click once on the new file created. Any color does not matter. The color will fill the whole document.
3. A layer (layer 1)is created in your layer window(automatically). (If you can’t see the layer window, go Window>Layers or press F7 key.
Now it comes to creating the Color (follow the Numbers in the image)
1. Right click on the layer 1 and select blending options. For beginners you will have trouble finding the buttons, but slowly you’ll be familiar.
2. Click on the “Gradient Overlay” at location no. 2
3. Select Blend Mode: “Multiply” (see image with no. 2 on it)
4. Select Style : “Radial” instead of Linear
5. Slide the Scale : 129%
6. Click on the color bar, you will see a pop up.
Great! Now, let’s blend in the color you want
On the pop up after no. 6 above. Double click on the left side of slider (in red box), insert this color code: #d91b5e
On the right, double click and insert this color code: #110901
You will see the following:
Download the pattern
Alright, now we are going to add in the lines.
Download this pattern I’ve created
Place this pattern in your AdobePhotoshop Folder: AdobePhotoshopCS2\Presets\Patterns
Ok. Back to your photoshop. Right click on the layer 1 again, choose blending options.
Inserting the Patterns
Select the settings according to the sequence. (No. 1 - 4)
I want to clarify on step 3, you might get lost abit. Click on the little down arrow on no.3, there will be a pop up. You might not see the pattern you’ve just downloaded, so you have to click on the little right arrow in no.3a, then select Load Patterns, then select linefill.pat (which you’ve downloaded just now).
Only that you will be able to select the pattern. After you follow the setting above, you are almost there. You’ll see the pattern filled to layer 1.
Add in the fonts
The font I’ve used for the “Merry Christmas” is LaurenScript (you can use any font you want), if you don’t have that font, you can always google and download one.
The other font that I used here is “Kristen ITC”. One of my favorite font.
Put on your creative hat and start writing anything you want using the “Text Tool” (the “T” button near the “paint bucket tool”)
You are done!
P/S: I thought this would be a quick post like how I draw this card, but it turn out to be a one hour post! But I guess is worth it. This is my first time writing a tutorial, I might missed out something, please bare with me. If you need help, always feel free to comment.
Besides Felicia asking how to do it, I feel like putting up this tutorial too. Reason? You can pick up a new skills, you will never know when you are going to use it in your career. That’s how I started Photoshop too! Seriously.
Hope you’ll enjoy my little tut here, and wishing you a wonderful Christmas in 2008.
