Will you work for FREE? (Part 1)

It is 2pm and I was sitting at my favorite cafe near my house trying to finish some of my work. 2 charity workers from different organization approach me for a donation. Usually, I donate, or I will just brush them off, you wouldn’t know whether they are real. But, today, I was totally curious about them, so I make a short interview with them:

The first one is a young looking guy who is raising fund for a charity organization in Ipoh. So, here’s the conversation with him:

Sam: I am just curious, do you get paid?

Guy: No. I am here to ask for a donation and I got nothing to earn from here. I work in a company (he mentioned a name) in the day, and at weekend I do charity work.

Sam: Are you a local?

Guy: Yes. I stay near Kepong.

Sam: But this charity organization is from Ipoh.

Guy: Ya, the owner of this charity organization comes to KL from time to time.

Sam: Why would you want to work as a social worker, there’s no pay.

Guy: I had an accidents 2 years back (he showed me a huge cut in his right arm), and I dropped out from my construction line, work in a small company doing paper work. I felt devastated and realize life could change drastically, that’s why I’ve decide to give something back to the community.

So, I donated RM5. Call me a fool, but I totally buy in his story. But later I realize I was not issued a receipt. (*Ghawk*) Anyway, some life pratitioner once told me, if you do charity, do it all hearted, regardless is a scam or con.
