Secretary or Personal Assistant for the CEO
Posted January 10th, 2009 by SamanthaWell, we’ve got one head hunting position recently for a very well known hotel. It’s offering a good range from RM2500 - RM4000. Requirement would be rather straight forward. 2-3 years experience as an secretary or PA, must be very well worth in Power Point Presentation and also Microsoft Excel.
As I posted this job to our website, many have asked about this position. Some think it’s a great deal, some have doubts about the job. Some asked,”Why a secretary get paid so much?”
I guess it’s time to clear the clouds and perception about this position. It’s never a too easy task when you work with the CEO. You’re someone smart, witty, presentable, analytical and independent. Like Carolyn Kepcher style.
Your day to day routine
You probably begin your day with reminding the CEO on today’s schedule, who to meet, what are the important points in the meeting, prepare all the necessary documents for the meetings etc.
You are the walking mobile for the CEO. Normally, people don’t look for the CEO directly, but they will be looking you! So, you will be in charge of screening the phone calls if it’s an important call. People will call you to schedule an appointment with the CEO.
You’ll follow the CEO for important meetings, take down notes, assist CEO in making decisions.
If there’s an internal meeting with the company top management, you will have to be there too. After the meeting came to a conclusion to execute something, you will partially be the person to ensure those execution has been made. Most commonly, you will be chasing after CTO, CFO, COO’s personal assistant for their reports, or analysis.
When it comes to board meetings, you will have to prepare the presentation slides. So, you must be someone analytical. You will analyze, plot charts, review it with the CEO before the board meeting. Or even any important meetings.
When CEO wants to go on a overseas trip, you’ll be in charge of his flight tickets, schedules overseas etc.
At times, you’ll need to organize media conference, invite VIP for opening ceremonies. You’ll see the press and media people most of the time.
And who says a PA or Secretary must be a female? That’s a pure gender bias.
Fun, challenging and rewarding job
It’s not JUST a secretary or PA job. This job is fantastic! You’ll get to meet the VIPs, top people in the management, you’ll learn how people make business decision, see how a huge organization works. You’ll make friends with people in the top management, and if you’re fascinated about working to the top of the corporate ladder, you are so close to it. Just like Andrea in the The Devil Wears Prada, minus the mini skirts, the suits and the fashion magazine. You basically manage CEO’s busy schedule.
The tough part of the job
It’s going to be stressful for sure. You’ll be facing challenges which most of time requires your own capabilities to resolve.
Are you the person of this type? If you are, I want you to take on the challenge. Drop me an email with your complete resume and photo to sam.chee [at] jobsbroadway.com. I would like to meet you, and help you take on a whole new horizon in your career.
