Western Digital Kuching closing down next March
Posted December 30th, 2008 by SamanthaThe rumors of Western Digital Kuching closing down few months back has been confirmed - TRUE. According to The Star 24 Dec 2008 on “Help Retrenched Workers, Govt Urged”, some 500 engineers and 1000 technical workers will lose their jobs in March next year.
We do not know whether the close down is entirely because of the economy or other factor. But, we do know that the global demand in the electronic industry have reduced significantly (averagely 11% reduction in demand).
Due to this poor demand, many factories have close down their production line. To reduce the operating cost, factories usually exercise the following steps to retain talent before they decide to go into mass retrenchment.
